What the Deacons Do:

The Board of Deacons is the primary source for congregational care and support. Each of the 24 deacons is responsible for eight to twelve families, building relationships through regular telephone calls, personal contacts at Church services and activities. The deacons acknowledge special events such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations or other special days with a card, persona note, or phone call. We celebrate the arrival of babies with a flower on the baptism font which is delivered to the mother with a copy of the "The Bible and Me Picture Book".

Each member of the church has the opportunity to meet their deacon at the "Meet Your Deacon" event each year. A similar outreach is done for the youth with "Deacons and Donuts".

The Deacons are there to provide support during difficult times with hospital and home visits and providing meals when needed. We provide funeral compassionate care such as a meal after a funeral, assisting the family with transportation if needed, and if requested to house-sit during the funeral service. During the Christmas season, the deacons assemble and deliver Christmas baskets to members of the congregation who are homebound, or who have had a very difficult year.

The Board of Deacons prepares and either mails or delivers college boxes to the college freshmen and sophomores. This provides them with a link to their home church, lets them know that we are thinking about them and praying for them. When the students graduate from college, we present them with a pen to acknowledge their accomplishment.
